Tanzanite Guide
Tanzanite is the blue-violet variety of the mineral zoisite, found commercially in only one place: the Merelani Hills of northern Tanzania. It scores 6 to 7 on the Mohs scale, so it is softer than sapphire and needs gentler wear.
Colour
Tanzanite can show blue and violet in the same stone, depending on the angle and the light. Richer, deeper colour is generally the most sought after.
Birthstone
Tanzanite is one of the birthstones for December.
Care
Remove tanzanite before sport, gardening or heavy work, and avoid ultrasonic and steam cleaners, sudden temperature changes and harsh chemicals. Warm soapy water and a soft brush are all it needs.
